86—Eighty-Six Volume 12 [Digital Light Novel]

"Our ladies, pray for the miserable ones at the moment of their death."

If Volume 11 was an inferno of hatred, Volume 12 is the cold, suffocating mist of reality. The story shifts to the Womisam Basin, a reclaimed wetland where the Eighty-Six are forced to protect the very borders of the Federacy while dealing with the fallout of the Republic's total collapse.

This volume is unique because the primary threat isn't just the Legion—it’s the Hail Mary Salvation Free Regiment, a group of renegade Federacy soldiers led by Noele Rohi. Their dangerous ignorance regarding "nuclear fire" creates a literal toxic wasteland, complicating an already desperate mission to destroy flood-control dams and halt the Legion's advance.

Why this volume hits differently:

  • The Weight of Leadership: We see a vulnerable side of Shin as he grapples with "Lena deficiency" and the exhaustion of his Esper abilities while trying to maintain unit morale in the face of a war that feels increasingly unwinnable.

  • The Ghost of Shana: The discovery that Shana has been integrated as a Shepherd named Nidhogg is a heart-wrenching twist that forces Shiden to face her deepest grief.

  • The Return of the Mermaid: The appearance of a Fisara (a leviathan) on an inland battlefield adds a touch of terrifying, primordial majesty to the mechanical chaos.

RLG’s Rating: 11/10 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐+ My heart literally broke for Shin in this one. Seeing him so worn out that he actually asks for Lena through the Para-RAID is the ultimate kilig but masakit moment. It reminds us that even "Reapers" need a home to return to. The way the Eighty-Six finally decide they don't need to hate the Republic anymore to maintain their pride is such a massive moment of growth.
